Description: Leaving the car park, we head north up the valley of the Grwyne Fawr to the reservoir before climbing onto the ridge line between the Grwyne Fawr and Honddu valleys. We follow this south enjoying the extensive views over the Black Mountains and beyond. We soon reach Chwarel-y-Fan, the highest point in Monmouthshire, before moving on to take in another of Monmouthshire’s mountain peaks, Bal-Mawr. From Bal-Mawr we descend to a junction of paths and then head west towards forest. Following forestry tracks, we make our way back to the start point.
Terrain: Mountain walking with some steep climbs and steep descents. No stiles.
For your rucksack: A packed lunch, snacks, drinks and of course a camera.
