Description: A varied walk in the heart of rural Monmouthshire. Starting at the wonderful Star Inn at Llansoy. The walk starts with a short 5 minute walk to the Church of St Michael at Llanvihangel-tor-y-Mynydd, followed by a short climb up Star Pitch to cross the B4293, heading down hill toward Trellech Grange. Stop for a short break at The Fountain Inn (maybe try one of their real ales) before a 2 mile, initially easy walk followed by a short steep climb, to the lovely village of Devauden (The Mason Arms is currently closed). From Devauden head for Kilgwrrwg and discover some of the most un-explored parts of Monmouthshire. Visit Kilgwrrwg Church, which can only be reached on foot. This beautiful small church has, possibly, the last sailor to die in the first World War buried in its grave yard (able seaman R. Morgan who died on 11th November 1918 on board the Royal Navy’s HMS Garland). After a short stay to admire this wonderful church and its surroundings, head across rolling fields and woodland to Wolvesnewton and the Church dedicated to St Thomas a Becket. The final leg of the walk is across remote rolling countryside to Llansoy and the hospitality of the Star Inn – great food and selections of real ales.
Terrain: Rolling hills with a few steep climbs and road sections.
For your rucksack: Packed lunch and a drink.
