Walkers are Welcome is 100

Walkers are Welcome have announced that Abergavenny is the 100th town to gain WaW accreditation. Abergavenny joins Chepstow and Monmouth as Monmouthshire towns in the WaW network. The Abergavenny WaW group received the good news at a meeting in the town on the 12th February.

Here’s what the WaW newsletter had to say.

WaW is 100!
We are thrilled to announce that Abergavenny has just become the 100th member of the WaW Network. Kate Humble has agreed to be their Patron, which is a coup for this town which is a gateway to the Brecon Beacons National Park. This is an amazing achievement for an initiative that started less than 6 years ago. We plan to make quite a splash about this, sending out press releases to national organisations.

About Walkers are Welcome

Walkers are Welcome is a national community- led scheme run by the locations themselves as places which have something special to offer walkers. It strengthens a town’s reputation as a place for visitors to come and enjoy the outdoors, bringing useful benefits to the local economy and ensuring that footpaths and facilities for walkers are maintained in good condition, benefiting both local people and visitors.
