A Llan-tastic Walk

Walk Leader: Angela Bishop and Sue Hogan

Date: Saturday 19th October 2013 09:00a.m.

Start & finish point: Llanddewi Skirrid Village Hall (SO343168).

Distance: Approx 11 miles

Time to walk: Approx 7 hours

Description: Our walk takes us through the parishes of Llandewi Skirrid, Llanfihangel Crucorney and Llangattock Lingoed in the north of Monmouthshire. Setting out from the listed Llandewi Skirrid village hall, we start by climbing the Big Skirrid. We will then follow sections of the Beacons Way, an old horse-drawn tramway and Offa’s Dyke Path through undulating farmland passing 3 churches, 2 Courts and 2 hostelries on our way. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to visit a rare listed 18th century cider house which is usually only open twice a year. There is plenty of history on this route as well as superb views of the surrounding hills and countryside so bring your cameras. There are almost 30 stiles and 1 short steep and two more gradual ascents. The walk will be taken at a reasonable pace to allow short stops at places of interest. On our return to the village hall there will be refreshments available (donations to village hall welcome).

Terrain: Mainly farmland, minor lanes, some rough terrain, stiles, could be muddy in places.

For your rucksack: Packed lunch, snacks, a drink and camera.

Price: £5 per ticket
