Start & finish point: Wentwood Reservoir Car Park (ST428938).

Time to walk: Approx 5 hours

Description: We start in the car park overlooking the secluded Wentwood reservoir. We then head north into what was the old royal hunting reserve of Wentwood forest. We will pass Bronze Age burial mounds, an Iron Age camp, Roman fortlets and Norman mottes. Amid the secluded groves, we will find secret World War II “resistance” bases….. so secret that the occupants were not even aware of their neighbours! A prize if you can find the one that is truly “lost”. Finally, we will return via what is possibly the oldest tree in Wentwood. No toilets, shops or hostelries on the route.

Terrain: A moderate walk mainly through woodland with one very steep ascent. May be muddy in places. No stiles.

For your rucksack: A packed lunch, drinks and a camera.
