Distance: Approx. 7 miles

Time to walk: Approx. 4 hours

Description: Starting from the village of Mitchel Troy, we will be walking uphill through fields, lanes and bridleways to enjoy fantastic views across to Abergavenny and the Black Mountains. On reaching the Kingswood, we will follow the edge of the woods to enjoying more great views before climbing for a second time to enter the forest. We will continue along forest tracks to emerge into open countryside with superb views over Monmouth and the surrounding area. We will be looking at the folklore of plants and local history along the way.

Terrain: Two steep slopes and a few stiles.

For your rucksack: Bring your camera, packed lunch and drinks.

A Short Walk to a Welsh Castle

Description: An evening walk with members of the local history society from the village of Shirenewton to the ruined Dinham Castle with views over the Severn Estuary.

Terrain: Quiet lanes, fields and some stiles.
