Time to walk: Approx 5 hours

Description: A walk from Llangattock across the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal and up a very steep slope to the Llangattock escarpment. At the top it joins an old tramway and there is an outstanding panorama of the Black Mountains and beyond. Our guide, a keen caver, will then take you past the cave entrances of Darren Cilau, Eglwys Faen and Agen Allwedd, before the route then descends to Craig y Cilau, a National Nature Reserve. Here you will see a compelling combination of natural and industrial history. We return via farmland and the canal.

Terrain: One very steep slope. In parts very rough underfoot due to loose stones.

For your rucksack: A packed lunch. Bring a torch if you want to explore the cave entrances.
