Start & finish point: Clydach Ironworks Car Park (SO230133).

Description: Starting in Clydach gorge we pass the old Ironworks then follow quiet paths on our way up to the Lonely Shepherd which stands overlooking the gorge and Usk valley. Our return sees crossing the River Clydach and walking up the 100 Steps before making our way along a former railway line passing the nature reserve as we go. We should have superb views to the Black Mountains, Usk valley and the beechwoods in the gorge with their glorious autumn colours. Plenty of historical interest.
Terrain: Mostly good well-walked paths, muddy in places, some minor roads, one steep incline and one long steady incline.
